pfizer’s apple
Felix Garner Davis
–
when we found out
about her yellow vials of medicine
the word
was that she kept rats
in bone;
murmurs suggested something
darker than a zest for soy
but i could only see fangs
& crooked lips & wine
in her milk eyes.
perhaps it was significant
that the splinters festered
when she caught her palm
on wood, or that her paper skin
was veined with scarlet;
still, i hadn’t glimpsed
a beauty like it —
ethanol-webbed frost
& hot gloom,
a machine-edged
melancholy
that rippled gums & swallows
into splashes
like slow-poured glass.
Felix Garner Davis edits an annual journal of poetry and fiction called Malevolent Soap.
